Micro-SIM: Problems for early adopters

Posted on by Mike Evans

Next week's expected announcement of the fourth-generation iPhone with its new micro-SIM card will bring problems for some early adopters. Frequent travellers, especially those within Europe, will find several countries where micro-SIMS are not available. Generally, I expect availability to follow the introduction of the iPad and iPhone in specific areas. Some countries, such as Greece, are always low on Apple's list of priorities and it is unlikely we will see the new SIM card being made available before the autumn at the very earliest. This means travellers will have to think carefully before upgrading to the new phone until they can be sure of micro-SIM availability. This will hit me because I also have an iPhone contract in Greece and am unable to get SIMs for either my iPad or the new iPhone when it comes out.
