Sexting: The propagation of amatory messages

Posted on by Mike Evans

This 1906 cartoon was remarkably prescient, as were many similar drawings in the long history of Punch (or the London Charivari) between 1841 and 2002. I grew up with Punch and was an avid reader, although this particular drawing, reproduced in Buzzfeed is just a tad before my time. The artist's forecasts were spot on, just a hundred years before their time. The English language has also moved on: An amatory message is now a sext.
