On the streets of Shanghai with the Sony RX10
Ever since he got his hands on a new Sony RX10, my friend Ralf Meier in Washington DC has been brushing up his street-tog cred. He recently took the super zoom, with its 1in sensor, to China and these shots are a record of street life in Shanghai. They are reproduced with Ralf's permission.
Shanghai with its 30-million inhabitants is the largest city in China and is a fascinating contrast of old and new. Ralf says that much has been heard about the Chinese tendency to bulldoze tradition but he feels that in Shanghai, at least, they are starting to preserve the more important aspects of the past. The French Concession area is one which definitely has a European feel, thanks to the pre-War commercial activity and influx of European traders, and is now one of the major tourist attractions in the city.
