Ticker Tape Horse: Hans Haacke's equestrian skeleton keeps you up to date with the market
Unveiled last month, Hans Haacke's bony equestrian occupies the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. It is the tenth transient work of art to join the more historical monuments—which include Admiral Lord Nelson, staring resolutely at his Trafalgar fleet bobbing along atop the lamp posts of The Mall. What I find interesting about the new addition is the moving ticker tape in the shape of a bow around the horse's left foreleg. According to the artist, the bow suggests the connection between power, money and history.
