Leica SL: Novoflex adapter lineup now includes Canon EF lenses
Since the SL landed on my desk a couple of months ago I've used precisely two adapters for other lenses. One is the official Leica M-Adapter T which allows most M lenses to be mounted, manual only of course. And the second is one or other of my LTM-M adapers to convert old screw-mount lenses (such as the newly acquired 28mm Summaron f/5.6) to be worn as well.
Leica Rumors reminds us that Novoflex, another respected German manufacturer, already has quite a collection of high-quality adapters for the TL/SL count, including Canon FD, Hasselblad, Leica M, Leica LTM, Minolta, Olympus OM and Nikon. And added to the list this week is a fully electronic adapter for use with certain Canon EF-mount optics.
As far as I can see, the new Canon EF mount is specifically for the SL rather than the T/SL duo. It supports autofocus, aperture control, AF/MF mode, depth of field indication and EXIF data for aperture and focal length only. With all these electronic attributes, the price tag of €499 (£379, $555) seems reasonable. Quality is never in question with Novoflex adapters and I have several in regular use.
